On 6th October,2020 the University of Rwanda (UR) through the African Centre of Excellence in Energy for Sustainable Development (ACEESD) and Energy Private Developers Associations (EPD) agreed to partner in the development and dissemination of energy technologies as well as institutional building and human capital development in energy sector.

This partnership will help ensure long-term sustainability and continuity of Energy sectorial development, professional, technical training and research at tertiary level should be given high priority.

Young entrepreneurs with the best innovative business ideas are poised to be incubated at the African Centre of Excellence in Energy for Sustainable Development’s Grid Innovation and Incubation Hub (GIIH) at the University of Rwanda in a bid to inspire and mentor innovation-based entrepreneurship with the view to create an environment where development of start-up enterprises can be inspired and supported.

Dr. Charles Kabiri was appointed Director of the Centre to replace Prof. Etienne Ntagwirumugara who has been leading the Centre from its establishment in 2016.

In a handover Ceremony that took place at the Centre, the outgoing Director Prof. Etienne Ntagwirumugara said that during his directorship, the Centre has made tremendous achievements and he is quite sure that the incoming Director will keep the Centre moving forward.

The African Center of Excellence in Energy for Sustainable Development (ACEESD) has won a grant worth 250,000 USD to establish an Incubation Center. The facility will bridge the gap between academia and industry by supporting students/universities and industry from African Countries and Rwanda in particular to create new markets that, fits the needs of African society.

Katundu’s study entitled “An impact analysis of population growth on energy‐water‐food‐land nexus for ecological sustainable development in Rwanda’ published on 16 October 2019 in Food and Energy Security Journal has been among the top 10% most downloaded papers.

Katundu Imasiku is a Ph.D. student at UR’s African Centre of Excellence in Energy for Sustainable Development (ACEESD) specializing in Renewable Energy.

35 students from the African Center of Excellence have appeared to the Doctoral Committee for a comprehensive oral examination. According to UR regulations, a Ph.D. student should appear to the Doctoral Committee for a comprehensive oral examination to present his/her extensive research proposal and research progress.
