Meet Katundu Imasiku, a PhD Candidate at ACEESD who won a research grant

Katundu Imasiku, a PhD Candidate specializing in Renewable Energy is poised to receive a grant he won to find out how renewable energy can be used to produce food. The grant worth R12-million (about 862 million RWF) over a period of 2 years, is awarded by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) to a consortium of 16 African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA) universities.

Master students at ACEESD visit Ntaruka Hydropower Plant to gain practical skills

40 Master students from African Centre of Excellence in Energy for Sustainable Development (ACEESD) specializing in Energy Economics, Renewable Energy and Electrical Power Systems have visited Ntaruka Hydropower plant to have their theoretical skills linked with technical experience.  
During this visit, students were taken through the whole process of power generation from creation of water reservoir at Ruhondo Lake, processing and supply of generated electricity to different parts of the country.

Academic staff from UR trained on technology transfer

10 academic staff and managers from UR have completed a ten – day training on technology transfer and commercialization of University Intellectual Property (TT-CUIP) in which they were equipped with skills on technology transfer and commercialization of CUIP.

Sustainable Energy for Rwandans: UR-ACEESD, EPD sign pact for human capital development in Energy Sector.

On 6th October,2020 the University of Rwanda (UR) through the African Centre of Excellence in Energy for Sustainable Development (ACEESD) and Energy Private Developers Associations (EPD) agreed to partner in the development and dissemination of energy technologies as well as institutional building and human capital development in energy sector.

This partnership will help ensure long-term sustainability and continuity of Energy sectorial development, professional, technical training and research at tertiary level should be given high priority.

Young entrepreneurs with the best innovative business ideas are poised to be incubated at the African Centre of Excellence in Energy for Sustainable Development’s Grid Innovation and Incubation Hub (GIIH) at the University of Rwanda in a bid to inspire and mentor innovation-based entrepreneurship with the view to create an environment where development of start-up enterprises can be inspired and supported.
