SHORT COURSE ON "PHOTO-VOLTAIC TECHNOLOGY"

The University of Rwanda in collaboration with IEEE and ACE-ESD organized a 2 days’ short course on Photo-Voltaic Technology from 29th to 30th November at Kigali conference & Exhibition Village (KC&EV). The course was attended by African center of excellence (ACE-ESD and ACE-IoT) PhD students, same staff & student from University of Rwanda and other from different private companies. The main point to this course was to discuss on:

  • access to electricity and link to development – African context – the global scenario – why renewable energy
  • Introduction to the science and technology of solar cells – basics of semiconductor physics –photovoltaic energy conversion – characteristics of solar cells – definition of efficiency – different types of solar cells – technology - state of the art in efficiency - concentrated solar cells – tracking systems
