The WB Executive Director for Africa Group 1 commends the performance of UR-ACEs

Anne Kabagambe, The Executive Director for Africa Group1 has said she is very impressed by the performance of the African Centers of Excellence under the University of Rwanda saying that this kind of project model should be encouraged.

Anne Kabagambe made remarks on 4th September during her visit to four African Centers of Excellence under the University of Rwanda funded by the World Bank namely the African Center of Excellence in Data Sciences, Internet Of Things, Innovative Teaching and Learning Mathematics and Sciences and African Center of Excellence for Energy for Sustainable Development.

All Centers’ leaders have presented their respective activities implemented in the implementation of the project and highlighted key achievements registered so far.

Students from these Centers have presented their research projects which got much appreciation for their relevance and practicability.

“All Ph.D. students’ projects are something that is not only practical but also relevant to what we think we are doing in areas of development to meet SDGs’”,  she said.

She also appreciated that the faculty exchanges programs that done with different partners are not only regional but also international. She, however, called upon Center Leaders to do their best to scale up the programs and increase the figures of students including female.

Kabagambe noted that UR’s Centers of Excellence are among the best performers. “I have never seen any such excellent performance indicators in World Bank projects”. She noted. She promised

Anne Kabagambe was accompanied by Yasser El-Gammal, the Country Manager for the World Bank Group in Rwanda and Deputy Vice-Chancellors of The University of Rwanda.

UR’s ACES are four of 24 centers of Excellences of The Eastern and Southern Africa Higher Education Centers of Excellence Project (ACE II) which seeks to strengthen 24 competitively selected centers to deliver quality, market-relevant post-graduate education in Eastern and Southern Africa.
