Georgia Tech delegation visits ACEESD to strengthen research and innovation partnership
On 25 March 2026, a delegation from Georgia Tech University visited the Centre of Excellence in Energy for Sustainable Development (ACEESD) at the University of Rwanda to strengthen ongoing collaboration and explore new opportunities in research and innovation.
The visit brought together academic staff and students from Georgia Tech, creating a dynamic platform for knowledge exchange and strategic dialogue. Discussions focused on identifying joint projects that can further advance research, innovation, and capacity building in areas of mutual interest.
Georgia Tech already maintains an active partnership with the University of Rwanda and ACEESD, particularly in supervision and collaborative research initiatives. This longstanding relationship has played a significant role in strengthening academic excellence and research output at the Centre.
In his welcoming remarks, Dr. Emmanuel Ufiteyezu, Director of ACEESD, expressed appreciation for the meaningful contributions made by Georgia Tech over the years.
“I want to commend Georgia Tech for their contribution to the achievements we have made so far. They have been supervising our students, especially at the beginning of the Centre when we had limited qualified staff to take on this role,” he noted.
His remarks highlighted the importance of international partnerships in building local capacity and supporting the development of highly skilled researchers.
The delegation, led by Valerie Thomas, emphasized the importance of expanding the scope of collaboration beyond existing initiatives. The team expressed strong interest in identifying new, innovative projects that can be jointly implemented.
“We came here to explore what more joint innovative projects we can implement together,” she stated.
This forward-looking approach reflects a shared commitment to deepening collaboration and addressing emerging challenges through research-driven solutions.
The visit marks another important milestone in the partnership between Georgia Tech and the University of Rwanda. By leveraging their combined expertise, both institutions are well-positioned to drive impactful research, foster innovation, and contribute to sustainable development.
As discussions continue, the partnership is expected to yield new initiatives that will benefit students, researchers, and the broader community, further reinforcing the role of global collaboration in advancing higher education and innovation in Rwanda and beyond
