GIIH FIRST EDITION COHORT BOOT CAMP
Grid Innovation and Incubation Hub (GIIH) is a research, innovation and entrepreneurship initiative that is hosted by the African Centre of Excellence in Energy for Sustainable Development (ACE-ESD) in the College of Science and Technology (CST) at the University of Rwanda. The two main objectives of GIIH are (i) to create a bridge between the university and various sectors in the economy in order to make research relevant to emerging issues, and (ii) to support innovation and entrepreneurship through incubator and accelerator programs. To provide support for innovation and entrepreneurship, GIIH has envisaged a business model approach which will be actualized through a proposed Grid Business Incubator Program (G-BIP).
Therefore G-BIP is to discover, nurture, andpotentially fund exceptional youth's business ideas that are innovative, scalable, and have huge transformational potential, making them financially viable, freestanding and competitive in the open market. It is against this background, a call for innovative proposals had been published and forty applicants responded to the call, out of forty (40) applicants the hub will host only 15 as incubatees for a boot camp of 7 days. This is in line with transforming potential and innovative business ideas into viable business ventures.
Very recent appointed selection committee did intensive screening exercise of submitted innovative business ideas and only 15 were
selected to attend the first cohort boot camp, it was done through pitching competition and very transparent.
